DTSC Director Announces P2 Challenge Award Honorees

General Chemical & Ampac Fine Chemicals Receive Recognition - Updated 11/11/08

Maureen Gorsen, Director of the Department of Toxic Substances Control addressed a gathering of CICC Members and guests and announced the DTSC/CICC Pollution Prevention (P2) Challenge Program award recipients.  The honorees during this third round are:

General Chemical - Hollister was recognized for reducing hazardous waste shipments by 175,000 pounds and hazardous waste disposal by 43% since April 2007.  That which was once a waste is now a co-product; once a cost is now a profit.  Congratulations to Plant Manager, Mark Panger and his team.

Ampac Fine Chemicals was recognized for formally instituting its STRIDE (Sustainability Through Renewable Innovative Design and Engineering) pollution prevention team.  Since inception in 2007 Stride projects have reduced hazardous waste generation by 2.18 million pounds, with an additional 2.76 million pounds anticipated reduction in 2008.  Total cost avoidance is estimated at over $5 million.  This is Ampac's second P2 recognition award.  Great job Jill Reed, Martha Murray and the STRIDE Team

Great job General Chemical and Ampac Fine Chemicals!! DTSC and CICC congratulate the men and woman of these companies for their outstanding efforts in the area of voluntary pollution prevention.
