Operations Manager - Transportation

Olin Chlor Alkali Products has an opening in the Henderson, Nevada location for an Operations Manager - Transportation.   This position manages daily operations for the West Coast Transportation group.    The Operations Manager supports the division and site objectives, including focus on safety, customer service, and continuous improvement with particular emphasis on Distribution Safety and DOT Compliance. The Operations Manager - Transportation manages operations at not only Henderson, but also operations in Santa Fe Springs and Tracy, California and Tacoma, Washington. 

 

The following responsibilities are representative of the knowledge, skills, and expectations of the Operations Manager - Transportation, including management of daily operations; leading and communicating goals and priorities; coordination between customers, facilities, and cross-functionally between different work groups - particularly the Customer Service organization; collaborating with the Central Logistics group to incorporate critical trucking initiatives both in safety and efficiency; ensuring all EHS&S requirements, procedures, and best practices are followed and maintained; leading and participating in ORC events, programs, corrective actions, and investigations; measuring and tracking KPIs; providing coaching and performance management to direct and functional reports; maintaining budget, financial activity, and forecasting for areas of responsibility; anticipating, evaluating, and resolving problems in a collaborative environment; making certain that DOT driver training, certification, and other compliances are met and maintained; ensuring DOT compliance of all transportation equipment;managing third party maintenance shop relationships; managing timely delivery of products in the most efficient and cost effective manner; optimizing opportunities for leveraging internal and external resources, including negotiating with third party resources and overseeing outside carriers for the West Coast; developing efficient and effective business flow processes, identifying process improvements and cost reduction strategies; developing, updating, and maintaining procedures for areas of responsibility; participating in internal and external audits in support of facility and division objectives.   The Operations Manager will have approximately 5 direct salaried reports plus approximately 50 drivers in the organization.

 

 Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline; Logistics or technical degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years related Transportation work experience required; management or supervisory experience preferred; desired work experience should include tankers, hazmat, safety focus/improvements, regulatory audits, and cost performance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) required; proficiency in SAP a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a proven record of initiative and results.
  • Experience in managing and motivating diverse groups of people required.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA.
  • Proven effective communication skills including verbal, written, and presentation skills with a demonstrated high learning ability.
  • Demonstrated experience in influencing others, resolving problems, and achieving desired results in an effective, collaborative manner.
