The following is and excerpt from the Welcoming letter by CICC General Manager Bill Hegland to the Forum attendees.
"By the end of today, you may have heard ideas and opinions with which you agree and others with which you do not agree. Some comments you may even find disturbing. The object of today's Forum, however, is not to win the debate and make converts but to receive timely and relevant informative, to begin a dialogue and a call-to-action for all participants in the chemical industry in California, and to become knowledgeable and engaged on this issue.
The stated goals of this California Chemical Industry Forum are to provide opportunities to:
MEET & LEARN first-hand from the principal author what the UC Berkeley report says and what impacts it may portend for the chemical industry;
HEAR directly from international and national opinion leaders in the respective fields, regarding models and concepts proposed for California chemical management policy;
UNDERSTAND the legislative driving forces behind these proposals which often transcend California boundaries, and equally important hear from a distinguished panel of industry experts regarding their positions on the relevant issues;
JOIN in the dialogue with industry peers on the future of California's chemical industry and learn how you how you can stay informed and play a continuing role in the process.
Your attendance today is testimony to the significance you've placed on the issues raised in the UC Berkeley report. We invite your active open-minded participation at today's event.
L. W. Hegland
CICC General Manager
