Calpine's losses more than triple

San Francisco, CA - Calpine Corp. more than tripled its losses in the first quarter as the bankrupt San Jose energy company struggled to repay billions in debt by shedding power plants and workers.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, Calpine reported a net loss of $589.4 million, almost 3 1/2 times its $168.7 million loss in the first quarter of 2005.
