Bill Hegland Resigns as CICC General Manager
09/05/06 - Sacramento, CA
Sacramento, CA - With the conclusion of the California Legislative session, Bill Hegland, General Manager of the Chemical Industry Council of California (CICC) tendered his resignation to the Board of Directors effective September 15, 2006. Upon accepting Hegland's resignation Board Chairman Don Wood of Dow Chemical said, "Bill Hegland's leadership, guidance, great professionalism and poise will be genuinely missed by me and the rest of the CICC. His wonderful character and integrity are traits we've all come to enjoy and respect."
Hegland joined CICC in 2000 as Director of Business Relations where he designed and implemented CICC's successful grassroots outreach program, CalBizNet (California Business Network). He authored CICC's monthly Issues & Items newsletter, and a legislative communiqué known as Bill's Bills. In October of 2002 Hegland was selected by the Board of Directors to lead CICC as its General Manager.
During his tenure CICC was refocused toward delivering value for members by placing emphasis on excellence in legislative advocacy, grassroots, political action and coalition building. Hegland oversaw CICC accomplishments in critical infrastructure security, anti-terrorism training, and CICC issues conferences including the recent Chemical Industry Forum in Los Angeles regarding Green Chemistry. He successfully directed CICC's unprecedented grassroots effort which, only last week, helped defeat a seriously flawed legislative measure regarding railroad tank cars.
Remarking on Hegland's ability to reach-out to other groups Wood said, "Bill helped identify members who could benefit from CICC support and involvement in Sacramento. He developed strong links with other associations thereby cementing CICC as a viable and effective organization. Thank you Bill for all that you have done for CICC; it is most appreciated."
Upon tendering his resignation Hegland wrote, "The associations I have made during my employment here [CICC] will truly be memorable for years to come. . . It has been my pleasure and honor to serve this organization and its members for the past six years. I wish you continued success in the future."
CICC has initiated discussions regarding Bill Hegland's successor, and an announcement will be made shortly. During the interim Sr. Consultant, John Ulrich, has been asked to provide the continuity for an orderly transition. Don Wood said, "It is important to understand that with this transition CICC will continue to build on the foundation that Bill [Hegland] has laid. CICC is well positioned to make the next leap to provide further value and support to our members."
