John Ulrich Named CICC Executive Director

11/09/06 - Board of Directors Approves New Management Paradigm

Sacramento, CA - In recent action, the Chemical Industry Council of California's Board of Directors unanimously approved a new management contract with J.R. Ulrich & Associates, a government and public affairs lobbying and consulting firm.  Under the terms of the agreement, J.R.Ulrich & Associates will provide CICC with a full range of association management, issue advocacy, and membership services. John Ulrich, owner of the firm, becomes Executive Director & Senior Consultant to the CICC.  Of the transition to a contract management firm, Don Wood, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said "It is important to understand that with this transition CICC will continue to build . . . CICC is well positioned to make the next leap to provide further value and support to our members."

Ulrich, a seasoned veteran of the chemical industry, has been under contract with CICC since August 2003 and has lobbied state legislative and regulatory issues on its behalf since April 2004.  In September 2006, he was named CICC's Acting General Manager.  Ulrich has a long history with CICC dating back to 1987.  As a company representative, he twice chaired CICC's Government Affairs Committee, initiated and chaired the Good Chemistry PAC, and served as a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

With nearly 25 years of experience in government relations and issue advocacy, Ulrich has lobbied legislative and regulatory issues for the chemical industry at the local, state and federal levels of government.  Additionally, he has held positions in laboratory and pilot plant R&D, manufacturing process development, production operations, and plant management.

Of this recent development Ulrich said, "We're excited by the opportunity to provide expanded service to the Chemical Industry Council of California and its Members." He added, "We've completed our initial transition phase and now we're moving into the planning stages in preparation for the start of the new legislative session . . . A series of personal calls and visits to CICC Members has been initiated, and every Member is encouraged to contact me directly when a legislative or regulatory issue causes them concern . . . Through continuous improvement we'll strive to better what we've done in the past; and then we'll do more of it!"
